Unleashing Beauty
The Unleash Campaign
(This page is best viewed with Mozilla Firefox web browser)
In our call to Unleash Beauty (justice, loving the outsider and radical sacrifice), Newsong has pinpointed 7 initiatives that have effectively made an impact in the community, to be part of the UNLEASH CAMPAIGN. These initiatives are created to serve the homeless, orphan, and widows, both locally and globally. Through the Unleash Campaign, we hope these initiatives will receive much needed support to sustain, grow and change lives. See below for descriptions of The Garage, Design Stars, Refresh, Burrito Project, Laundry Love, 511 Santa Ana, and Malawi.

Renovate Ministries:
The Garage
The Garage helps people who are in a tough spot in life. These devoted mechanics and volunteers want to show God’s Love by fixing cars for those who are not able to afford the necessary repairs on their car: the single parent who needs to pick up the kids after work and take them to the doctor… but the car won’t start or the unemployed individual who has to choose between paying for rent or for food. The Garage desires to utilize the skills of mechanics in the church to tangibly love others.

Design Stars
Design Stars cares for deserving families (”stars”) by blessing them with an extreme home makeover. Skilled designers, craftsmen, artisans and volunteers alike rally together, creating beautiful living spaces to support a family that has made a difference in the community. It is a way to transform hearts while transforming homes. Design Star’s dream is to create bold, inspirational living spaces, as a way to inspire others to live out bold and inspirational faith. Approximately $2K will renovate a 1 space in a home. About $10K for an entire home. Of course this is all dependant on size, conditions, existing furniture, etc.

Refresh
Refresh is a day spa for single mothers and homeless women who have no time and/or funds to take a break from the busyness of life, work and raising children. While professional volunteers care for the outer appearance through hair care, facials, and other elements of a traditional day spa, women walk away with both their bodies and souls refreshed from the love, prayer and conversations, which take place. While moms get refreshed, volunteers give loving care to children and provide wonderful activities. Refresh’s hope is to continue to be a safe place for single mothers and homeless women to feel nourished and cared for so that they feel greater hope throughout the week.

Community Service
Burrito Project
Burrito Project is a group of bicyclists that gather every week to ride bikes to local parks, distribute lunch sacks while developing relationships with the individuals in the homeless community. While serving basic needs for the homeless, Burrito Project makes space for those who gather in the parks with the homeless to interact and build friendships.

Laundry Love
Laundry Love Projects (LLPs) are regular opportunities to help people who are struggling financially by assisting them with doing their laundry. LLPs partner with local Laundromats in cleaning the clothes of those living in shelters, motels, cars, garages and on the streets. It is LLPs’ mission to take Laundromats and convert them into hubs of relief, granting reprieve to those living in oppressive poverty and often providing other services as well.

511
511 Santa Ana is a Creative Space that serves and empowers the Hispanic and Latino families, the youth, the homeless and the artists of Santa Ana. It is where activists gather, where artists fuse creativity with cause, where homeless, youth and third culture families can find community and feel at home. 511 will focus on developing leaders in the community to effectively focus and care for the four areas of need.

Nkhoma, Malawi
Nkhoma is a region in Malawi (Map) with over 5000 orphans/vulnerable children, people ravaged by AIDS/HIV and no clean water. Already, Newsong students from Route 45 through high school have lead the way by sponsoring several children, purchasing nearly 40 Talking Bibles, and raising over $20,000 for Y-Malawi!! Newsong people have already sponsored over 300 children from Nkhoma through World Vision and we have sent 2 teams to make connections with the people. Through the Unleashing Campaign and by partnering with Y-Malawi (http://www.y-malawi.org/), we hope to provide holistic care through the following:
UPDATE: GOAL EXCEEDED! ABOUT 1500 CHILDREN SPONSORED (1104 WERE SPONSORED IN ONE DAY!!!)
Sponsor an additional 1000 Y-Malawi World Vision children: $35 a month.
Children can be sponsored through Y-Malawi’s web site at: http://y-malawi.org/ChildSponsorStart.asp.
UPDATE: GOAL MET AND WILL POSSIBLY BE EXCEEDED BY END OF CAMPAIGN IF CAMPAIGN GOAL IS REACHED! We are not limited to only 2 wells. Let’s keep on going and shoot for more!
Build 2 water wells (food):
$6200 per well. A 60 feet deep well can bring new health and life to a village of 150 people. The well you help dig will be capable of providing more than 600 gallons of safe water a day for drinking, bathing, irrigating crops, and nourishing livestock. When drilling teams strike water, entire villages erupt in celebration because a clean water source can cut a community’s child mortality rate in half.
UPDATE: Due to logistical/customs issues, Y-Malawi/World Vision is not able to supply AIDS Caregiver Kits; however, MOSQUITO NETS will be purchased in place of the AIDS kits.
Provide 100 AIDS Caregiver Kits (health): $28 per kit. Assembling AIDS Caregiver Kits is an effective, hands-on way to:
Show Christ’s unconditional love to those suffering from AIDS
Equip caregivers with a year’s worth of the practical materials they need
Encourage caregivers to continue caring selflessly for their neighbors
UPDATE: GOAL REACHED!!
Provide 50 Talking Bibles (spiritual):
$50 each. These Bibles are given to Chiefs in their local language, Chichewa. Hundreds of Chiefs, men, women, and children have listened to the Talking Bibles and have accepted Christ as Savior.
